If events go to plan we should be moving rather soon, so I have more things to give away (or send to you for cost of postage). Quick pickups are appreciated so I can get this stuff out of the way, though I will hold things for a wee while on request :)
( Magazines & cardboard )
Also, if you claimed something from my last post and haven't picked it up or sent me an address yet please let me know if you're still keen or not! |

Our apartment is suddenly on the market, and we're preparing to move - possibly even twice, if we need to rent temporarily before we buy a house - so I'm clearing out as much as I can.
All this stuff is FREE for the taking if you come and pick it up ASAP. I'm also happy to send it to you for cost of postage. Anything that doesn't go in the next day or two we'll be taking to an op shop or something.
( all gone )
Speaking of donations, does anyone know who might have use for a bunch of old towels (with fraying, bleached spots, etc) - they're not good enough for an op shop, but I was thinking perhaps an animal shelter might be interested? |

I think some people missed my move to writing over on Nut and Bee, so here is a quick reminder :)
Tags of recent interest include wedding and tokyo; plus I post my drawings and other bits and pieces there regularly.
There's RSS if you're so inclined!
(The content is also syndicated at nutandbeefeed, but if you're going to use that then please don't leave comments there! I can't get those comments mailed to me, so I tend to miss them; it splits discussion between two sites which is a bit messy; and most importantly LiveJournal only stores the most recent entries for syndicated feeds, so the comments disappear forever after a couple of weeks. Frankly I wish LJ would improve the way RSS feeds are handled, or do away with them, but I don't see either option happening. I could block them from syndicating my content, but I don't want to annoy anyone :/) |

We are married now!
We won’t have the professional photos until we get back from honeymoon, but this is one taken by fishie. I’ll write a full post about the wedding later on - it has been an exhausting day - but it was a lovely ceremony and we are very happy :)

I've decided it's time to integrate my blog and website, so from now on I'm going to be posting all my blog entries and the Sketchbook Sweeties over on Nut and Bee. I've made a nifty new Wordpress-based site with comments and all that fancy stuff!
I'm keeping this LiveJournal for occasional personal use but won't be posting much here, so please follow my main site if you'd like to keep up with me :)
I'd highly recommend using the RSS feed for convenience! If you're already reading this through an RSS reader please change it to the new feed URL: http://www.nutandbee.com/feed/rss2/
P.S. andricongirl has made nutandbeefeed, which is the content from the new site fed back to LJ. It might be convenient for some of you, though please note that I will not see any comments left there. Also the formatting is unruly and it's generating some links that don't exist. (I wish LJ would fix the way they handle feeds, but that's a topic for another day!) |

Lots of the blogs I read publish regular lists of interesting links, which I like so much I thought I'd start my own! Instead of setting a schedule (which I probably wouldn't stick to) I'll be posting them whenever I have ten nifty things. I'll credit sources where I can remember, and try to get better about recording them in future...
01) Advice on Learning to Create Ambigrams, those nifty typographical designs that read the same word upside-down and right-side-up. (via Nubby Twiglet)
02) Paper illustrations by Yulia Brodskaya, who knew quilling could be so awesome?!
03) Fantastic macro photos of moss, lichen and fungi from Bonnie Matthews on flickr.
04) A 30m tall crossword on a building!
05) Speaking of puzzles, I just discovered KenKen. It's like Sudoku but with more maths! Yay! Maths! The New York Times offers six free puzzles online every day.
06) NotCot is keeping track of the 50 amazing hand-crafted boxes being sent to bloggers to promote the upcoming film of Neil Gaiman's Coraline.
07) I own a book called "Knitting with Dog Hair: Better a Sweater From a Dog You Know and Love than a Sheep You'll Never Meet". Yes, really! The $2 I paid to save it from the remainder bin was well worth the enduring entertainment value. It turns out you can also spin cat fur, and the video includes some amusing shaved cats. (via MAKE)
08) It pleases me that there are people dedicated enough to make precise replicas of Doctor Who scarves.
09) This video from Kirin Norebook makes me really sad about the demise of Gocco! I know, you could do the same thing with normal screenprinting gear, but it would be so much messier and more time-consuming.
10) Luca Turin, a scientist and perfume aficionado, talks about his controversial theory of smell. (That's right, it's 2009 and we're still not quite sure how noses work!) Be prepared for some science, though it's a less complex discussion than in the books by and about him, which I would also recommend. (via Now Smell This)
P.S. It looks like my Cupcakeosaur t-shirt has finally reached the end of its run and will probably not be available after midnight next Monday, so last chance to pick one up :) |

I finally found a Mac-compatible LiveJournal backup tool - it has a command line interface, but the linked tutorial makes it fairly straightforward to use. None of the other tools I've seen floating around are Mac-friendly (except LJBook which has been overloaded every time I've tried to use it) so I thought it might help someone.
I think it's unlikely LJ will actually shut down, consolidating teams with redundancies seems a pretty standard thing to do in shaky economic times, but I wanted to make a backup just in case.
If it does happen I'll start some other blog, which will be linked to from Nut and Bee, and I'll be tweeting!
I was just thinking the other day that the "friends list" is far less vital now that we have widespread use of RSS feeds and nice tools to read them. I would miss the drama and intimacy of friends-only posts, but it would not be any more difficult to keep up with people, no matter how many platforms they were spread over. |

Nut and Bee friend Christine had a version of one of my drawings tattooed on her shoulder!
I've given permission for a couple of tattoos before, but this is the only one I've seen a picture of, so I'm going to consider it the first :)
